Although i am one in favour of great debates arguing point for point on issues, i find that the great moronic herding malaysian mass has once again failed me. It doesn’t matter if there is 99 people who are against fuel hike and 1 person like fat4 who is for the fuel hike. As long as you present your point in good manners, there are bound to be a good discussion. You and i are not the prime minister, neither are we any minister nor politicians. We are not the great consultants that many countries would die for our services. We are just ordinary people who go about our daily routine, being the best back seat driver there is in this world. In fact i was very happy when one person actually came up to me and had a great debate point for point on the fuel hike. Although in general we are on the same principles, we end up knowing that any savings in subsidies may not equate to benefits received by Malaysians in other ways.
But that’s beside the point. After thinking for a few days, i suddenly realise that all these debates we have not even focus on a group of people who took opportunity to use the issue to further their own interests. Although i can safely say that across the board, the mamak shops i visited on a regular basis has not increased their prices, there are many others who did. Pray and tell me, if a tong of gas goes up by 30% how should it affect your cup of teh tarik by the same token is beyond my comprehension. How can you say the water boiled constitute more than 30% of the entire costs of making a cup of teh tarik. Even if all your workers’ expenses has gone up, have you actually increased their salaries by 30%? if these bosses take opportunity to increase prices but not salary, their heads should be chopped.
the poor souls are the taxi drivers who hasn’t gotten any price increase yet but they are forced to absorbed the increased price themselves. Bus companies are fast to increase their prices. Air Asia has increased their fuel surcharge. Why they do it? i don’t understand as they do not consume petrol but aviation petroleum. Aviation petroleum are fixed according to market price and there is no subsidies by the government.
So instead of us standing or rather sitting down here trying to fight out who is wrong or who is right, we should pin point the culprits who took opportunity to increase price. Post it here and boycott those shops that increased prices unnecessarily. That would make us a better society.
