Can we change Malaysian Blogosphere in our generation?

In order to spur the growth of something, you need heaps of people to embrace it. Internet has been around for donkey years. Only the US armies get to used it. No one ever thought that it could be used as a medium for communication. Even in the 80s when there was unix type networking and lynx type internet, there weren’t any real advantage using internet. Most people would think a phone call would still be the fastest. They fail to understand the ultimate cost savings if they were to promote the technology on a wide scale basis. It was when WWW was first formed and when Clinton pushed the button for Information Superhighway that we suddenly have massive government support to enhance this technology and pushes it for the greater community. With Microsoft and windows doing well to promote the use of PCs and Netscape which managed to make browsers for WYSIWYG that we finally have the infant version of internet. Some of us then with our 9k modem, would still prefer lynx as the speed for downloading was still really slow.

It was with heaps of capital investments and stuffs that we finally have what we have today, broadband. The future seems brighter as more and more people embraces internet. To some people, it is a form of communication they cannot live without anymore.

Then let’s talk about computer screen or TV screen. Just 5 years ago, if i were to predict most people would use LCD in 5 years time, i would be laughed off. Normally with technology there is a trade off, you need more people to embraces it and the market becomes larger and eventually the costs of manufacturing would be cheaper. LCD has been dropping their prices like nobody’s business and is likely to continue its dropping trend this year. LCD TVs and Plasma TVs too have been dropping their prices. You need more people and a larger market to make your stuff viable.

The same goes for blogging. You see Singapore as a nation of 4 million against Malaysia a nation of 24 million, we have 6 times the population. We might not have the same percentage of internet users against population, but surely in terms of numbers we are generally higher than them right? Can someone check the data on this? Thanks. But if we have more numbers than them, in fact some of our IT companies are doing so much better than them in the international arena. So much so that Dell has moved their entire asia pacific control nerve centre to Penang. How much more can you get? this was done at a loss to Australian. Malaysian has better costings yet their technological skills are not lacking.

We have learn to live too modestly for a long time. In fact sometimes so much so that we are being bullied. We ourselves got ourselves to be blamed as well. As we deeply engrossed ourselves with internal affairs like baldgate, squatgates which are of national interest, we tend to blame ourselves even for the crooked bridge gate. Come on. If we truly open our eyes and see how INSINCERE singapore is in treating us, why should we respect them? They have delayed every single issues since 1997 the financial crisis from CPF, Tanjung Pagar, Water issue, bridge issues, etc. They have, i repeat again, have delayed every issue. Whereas the issues which concern them from the overflow of the financial crisis is only the CLOB affair. Have we settle the problem for them? yes we have. the solution might seem a little unfair for them, BUT if you choose to play with fire and got yourself burnt, don’t blame the insurers for not insuring with them.

So with our blogosphere, we pale in comparison with the singapore’s blogosphere. I don’t think we have lack of writers. I have spoken to some of the taikors of blogging on MSN and truly they felt sometimes it is better to remain quiet and be happy and everyone loves everyone.

Honestly, the history of blogging has not been around for long. But blogs normally represents its longer form weblog. Which is a log of information about a person or something. In order to promote alternative voices we need strong blogging community. In order to have strong blogging community we need to have strong voice. Let’s make our blogosphere a havoc place and a place where we can further promote our voices.

Let me remind you all, one of the biggest alternative voice in the NKF saga (Singapore news) was Rockson website. He summarise the entire situation well on his blog and his blog went on to become an alternative voice. Unless we have a vibrant blog community we might have missed out a lot of people out there who has good alternative views. I know my other Fat4 kakis have really good views but too bad they aren’t on internet.

Instead of championing blogs which talks about a person’s lunch or what that person has for ang pows during the 2nd day of Chinese new year, let’s champion issues. There are many gems out there which still hasn’t got the masses to support them to spur them to write even better. I think you guys know which blogs I am talking about. Let’s get behind them and show them our full support.

SO DO I HEAR YOU? DO I REALLY HEAR YOU?
