hands up those who has seen air asia ads. those that says free seats and then RM9.99 tickets. tell me how many of you truly believed that that is the case? today as i was flipping through the blogosphere’s community of blogs, i saw an interesting posting from shaolintiger.com. he felt he was conned into buying the tickets. But i am sure that before he keyed in his credit cards details, he would have known the costs and surely by knowing the costs, he would have compared with heaps of other airlines prior to pressing the process key. So he knew he was saving a bundle when he tried to purchase the tickets. so i presume that there should not be any con or conning in the process. he mentioned about the free airtickets and that it is only offered for one way.. wrong. it was offered for both ways. here’s the proof:

you can see fare = RM0. Taxes costs about RM900 something. but that’s for 5 people travelling to macau - to and fro. if you take conventional airlines, you need to pay a minimum of RM800 per person excluding taxes/etc. so in many ways, if you really feel that the gimmick is a con, then you can show the people in charge that they are conning you by not flying with them. we vote with our money, just like how MAS or SIA has lost me as a passenger since the inception of Air Asia.
Shaolintiger, if you are reading this, allow me to reiterate that this is not an attack and as adults we share and learn together. Cheers buddy, the next tiger beer is on me.
p.s. this was the comment i wrote on his blog:
Seriously, i think you are quite stingy judging by your post. No no, i am not asking for a fight but rather some sense in reasoning. People who have read my blogs, read how i champion the Air Asia story. Ask yourself where you are going to. Then you ask around for airlines which leaves KLIA to that particular destination. Ask them for a breakdown of Air ticket price and then for airport tax/admin/fuel surcharges. You will see that Air Asia’s admin/fuel surcharges/airport tax is about industry standard. Where they win is the air fare. So in many ways, your post is very misleading and provide a wrong impression for the general public regarding a cheaper option. i used to be a silver star alliance member and after knowing air asia, i saved a lot more and that is the truth. plus, if you have tried other budget airlines advertisements pitch, they tell you the air fare which you can never book and yet you still pay the same amount of surcharges. seeing that you have booked the tickets, i am sure you have agreed with me in my stance that it is still the cheapest on the market. sorry if i am being too blunt.

just how much did this trip to macau by airasia save him ?shaolin tiger is same gang as xx be careful
no lah.. shaolintiger is a lot nicer. i can’t talk about the other person, so no comment. hehehe
i think he’s like me, he thought its free through-and-through. i managed to get return flight to penang for free, but decided not to go ahead with the booking when i saw that i had to also pay airport tax, etc eventhough its not that much. but no money means no money la kan. hahaha.
also, the return thing depends on which flight you request. i tried a few times to get both ways free. first few tries managed to get one-way free only.
hehehe.. no lah.. you can book both ways. i know i did.. as i book something like 50 over flights. it is not entirely free, but nonetheless whichever airline you take, you still have to pay airport tax admin charges, etc. so it is still saving you heaps of money.
